When longtime member Bob Brewer first retired — “for the second or third time” he laughs — he found himself wondering what came next. His daughters were grown, and life had slowed down.
“I needed something to engage me," he says. "Something to challenge me."
Then Bob discovered OLLI.
"A friend recommended I check it out. I took a course on the Arab Spring and was absolutely intrigued — by the subject, by the instructor, by the people in the room. That’s what hooked me."
Since 2011, Bob has explored everything from history to music to architecture, joined field trips, participated in socials, and even become part of a baseball group formed by fellow OLLI members.
"Aging can be wonderful, but also isolating. At OLLI, I’ve met fascinating people and found a real sense of community. We share life experiences — both the good and the hard — and that connection means an awful lot to me."
